Does Your Website Need a Makeover
Image makeovers are common among business professionals, who know that being up to date in appearance, grooming, and apparel can give them that edge against the competition. Pick up any women’s magazine and chances are you will find a makeover article, with a woman receiving expert treatment to update her hairstyle, makeup and wardrobe to set the tone she needs for a new job or promotion.
Just as styles change in fashion, so too do internet styles change. Website technology has increased by leaps and bounds, and so have customer expectations. Wearing last year’s suit, or scuffed shoes might lose you the job or contract. So might an out of date website.
In the early days of the internet, when it was “cool” just to say you had a website, you could get away with the site your neighbour’s son, the computer whiz, built for you. Maybe you even learned the basics and put up a web page yourself. Today, the internet has matured into an important marketing medium. Customers expect companies, large or small, to have a website, and they expect that website to be of professional quality.
When was the last time you took a close, hard look at your company’s website? What image is it presenting of you and your company? Here are 7 sure signs that you need a website makeover:
1. There is a shiny, spinning 3D logo at the top of the page;
2. The site features a stucco textured background;
3. All the type is large and bold;
4. The theme song from “Rocky” plays when the page starts to load;
5. There is an assortment of animated images and blinking text to add interest;
6. The site has a black background with a multicoloured variety of text;
7. The images are grainy or distorted, with jagged edges.
As the saying goes “You never get a second chance to make a first impression". Potential customers may get their first impression of your company from your website. Make sure that the image you are projecting is sending the right message to those customers.
