Now....you're cooking!

Now....you're cooking!

This popular recipe website (a personal project of In Formation Design's Joan Donogh) was designed with a retro 50s flavour, inspired by the classic recipes it features. This is a complete redesign of the original site. By studying the access logs, we learned that most visitors arrived at the site directly on a recipe page, and not the home page. Therefore the site navigation was very important.

The site was designed with a common top and side navigation bar, which allows the site branding and navigation to appear on every page.

Another unique feature is a print option for each recipe, which provides a page suitable for printing. Other popular features include a site search, and a "recommend it" feature, which allows users to email a link to the recipe they have been viewing, to a number of email addresses.

Cookbook

Cookbook

A printed cookbook was produced, including many of the most popular recipes from the website, plus a selection of "new" classic recipes exclusively available in the cookbook. The book follows the same image as the website, and includes 50s illustrations on all of the chapter title pages. It includes a table of contents and index, and is spiral bound for ease of use (stays open on the kitchen counter when you are referring to a recipe).

E-commerce Micro-Site

Comfort Food Classics

While common web design wisdom tells you to avoid overly long web pages, a notable exception is the sales "micro-site." This site format is typically one long page, and it's purpose is to sell you a product that is usually downloaded instantly. Features, benefits and testimonials are included to convince viewers of the value of the product being offered. In this example, the micro-site format is employed to market an e-book version of the Comfort Food Classics cookbook. The PDF version of the cookbook is available for instant download following the completion of online payment.
