Owner's Profile

Joan Donogh, owner of In Formation Design, has been obsessed with the effective presentation of information for over 20 years. Her mission is to ensure that the right information is presented in a clear, attractive, easy to follow format.

Joan’s earliest experience in information design was in designing the function, flow, and screen layouts for a large mainframe computer program in the early 1980’s. This program revolutionized the allocation and replenishment of product in Canada’s then largest clothing specialty retail chain - Dylex Ltd.

Joan followed this up by pushing the limits of early, not so graphically inclined, spreadsheet software and dot matrix printers, to develop informative charts that would quickly and clearly reveal their key information.

A career move into retail marketing, just at the time when advertising production was moving from drafting tables and art boards to computer assisted artwork, allowed Joan to follow her passion for presentation. As Marketing Manager of a national retail chain, TipTop Tailors, she developed signing, brochures, newsletters, reports, overhead presentations, forms, training manuals, and more. She was a key resource, called upon by coworkers whenever a graphic communication was required.

The advent of the World Wide Web was an exciting time, bringing together the computer programming environment of her roots, with marketing and information presentation. Joan embraced this new medium wholeheartedly, and became very skilled in developing effective and attractive web pages.

Joan founded In Formation Design in order to devote her full efforts to the art and science of information design, and to aid others in the quest for effective communication.
